The National Theatre’s 2027 season is set to deliver a star-studded lineup, combining high-profile revivals, ambitious new writing, and the potential return of repertory scheduling under artistic director Indhu Rubasingham.
Olivier Theatre Highlights
West Side Story (Winter 2027): The landmark Bernstein and Sondheim musical gets its first major London revival in years, directed by Marianne Elliott alongside Miranda Cromwell.
Suddenly Last Summer (Feb 19 – Apr 24): Michael Grandage directs Tennessee Williams' classic, starring Emma Corrin, Arty Froushan, and Harriet Walter.
Major (Spring/Summer): James Graham and director Jeremy Herrin (This House) reunite for a new political drama charting John Major’s political career and European diplomacy.
The Great Indaba (Autumn): Moira Buffini's new play explores the South African meeting between Nelson Mandela’s government and Northern Irish political figures ahead of the Good Friday Agreement.
Lyttelton Theatre Lineup
Mr Loverman (Feb 25 – Apr 17): Adapted from Bernardine Evaristo’s novel by Natasha Gordon, starring Danny Sapani and Gary Beadle under Paulette Randall's direction.
Plenty (Spring): Emilia Clarke leads David Hare’s post-WWII drama for its 50th-anniversary production.
Rep Season: Death of a Salesman & A Whistle in the Dark (Summer/Autumn): Paul Mescal stars in both Arthur Miller's classic (alongside US star Tracy Letts as Willy Loman, directed by Rebecca Frecknall) and Tom Murphy’s crime drama. The paired run tests a potential permanent return to the NT's traditional repertory system.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Winter): Mawaan Rizwan and George Fouracres star in Tom Stoppard’s comedy.

Samira (Feb 4 – Mar 13): Carmen Nasr’s Arab Spring drama starring May Calamawy.
Glorious Madness (Spring): A original musical built around the songs of Joan Armatrading, written by Iman Qureshi and directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
The Adeyemis – A Family Saga (Winter): Lucian Msamati directs Uzo Aduba in Oladipo Agboluaje's drama set during a pivotal moment in Nigerian history.
Off-Stage & Special Projects
Ghostlight (Summer/Autumn): Punchdrunk creates a new immersive experience curated by Lucy Kirkwood, anticipated to utilize spaces across the full National Theatre complex.
