Refreshing, original and laugh out loud hilarious, Scholar’s Creek has set the benchmark for 2022 theatre very high.

Nina and Noa, two sexually frustrated teens, endure every school day together. From fantasies about the closeted English teacher, to first dates with classmates, they tell each other everything. But there seems to be one thing they can’t admit to each other.

The play opens with Nina and Noa waiting for their school bus, chatting casually about love and relationships (as most seventeen year olds do). The quick witted, fast paced and stunning comedic timing enraptures the audience from the very beginning. The pair begin to joke about classic western romances, how Hollywood has ruined the concept of love with its extravagancy. They decide to come up with their own story together, feeding into the stereotypes and cliches of the romantic genre. The lighting shifts as the audience is thrown into the western world and parts of the story are multi rolled by our two actors.

Georgia Vyvyan and Julia Pilkington are absolutely electric as their bond feels so real, you almost forget you’re watching a play. The two bounce off each other effortlessly and with incredible grace and fantastic comedic timing throughout the whole show. Their talent shines through and leaves the audience, quite literally, crying with laughter. Amidst the comedy, the heartfelt moments are so completely heartwarming, Vyvyan and Pilkington will leave you beaming with joy by the end.

A special mention must of course go to Billie Esplen who wrote and directed the show. Esplen’s flawless writing and stunning wit makes for a masterly comedy, including a beautiful insight into being young and deciphering one’s sexuality.

Refreshing, original and laugh out loud hilarious, Scholar’s Creek has set the benchmark for 2022 theatre very high.

Scholar’s Creek is not one to miss and will be running until 24th January.
