You and Cameron Bernard Jones first performed together in Wondering Soul, and now return with Into The Light. What did you discover about your creative chemistry during the first concert, and how has that influenced this new performance?
Cameron:
The creative chemistry Guillermo and I have built is so awe-inspiring to me. I discovered that we have a huge trust in each other. With our first concert together under our belts, there is a comfort behind preparing for this new performance that allows us to go deeper into the storytelling.
Guillermo:
I think we’ve also helped each other to step out of our artistic comfort zones. In my case, I’ve learned a lot from both last year’s performance and the upcoming one. It’s also allowed me to experiment more as a composer. For example, I’ve written a song specifically for Cameron’s voice in an old-Broadway style I probably wouldn’t have tried if it weren’t for this concert.
Into The Light will bring together showtunes, jazz standards and classical repertoire, alongside the premiere of some of your own original compositions. How do you approach putting such different musical worlds together, and what can audiences expect from this concert?
Cameron:
As we tend not to stick with one certain genre per concert, we always start with the theme and story arc. We experiment with certain songs and get to know the feel; some things stick and some things get changed for other options. Overall, we strive for artistic and emotional clarity through the music and lyrics.
Guillermo:
We try to take audiences on both a narrative and emotional journey. Once we know which journey we want to embark on, we select the repertoire. It’s a very varied programme, but the storytelling we’re trying to convey keeps it cohesive. I also composed all the original music with that specific narrative in mind, which contributes to that sense of togetherness.
The title Into The Light feels particularly evocative for a concert that combines music, storytelling and live performance. What does the title mean to you?
Cameron:
In the challenging times we as humanity find ourselves in, it was important for me to tell the truth. In order to step into the light, we must first face that which comes before it. The concert is a journey into acceptance and positivity.
Guillermo:
No matter how dark things around us may get, it’s important to keep looking for that speck of glow that keeps us going. And I think that, for that, art is often the answer.
Into The Light is at The Crazy Coqs on Sunday, 25 October, 2026, 7:30pm. Tickets: here.
