Are you ready for High School Musical?
The Disney show will transfer to the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre from 12 October 2026.
We caught up with Luke Bayer for 15 rapid-fire questions covering rehearsals, stage door memories, favourite Disney scores, and how he really feels about social media - and more!
Hi Luke.
Describe High School Musical in three words...
Community, friendship, and joy.
What is your comfort food after a long day in the rehearsal room?
An apple crumble overnight oats pot from Marks and Spencer.
Is there a dream role that you would love to play?
I would like to play Orpheus in Hadestown.
What can London audiences expect from High School Musical?
Some nostalgia, a different take on the show where people will be able to get closer to the characters than they've ever been before, and just immense joy—which I think we all need at this point in life and where we're at in the world.
Your favourite holiday destination?
Croatia. I love it there.
One thing that you love about London theatre culture, as a performer?
The closeness of the performers. We all know each other, support each other, and really root for each other. I love that—I think that's really special.
Has any fan ever given you something unexpected or memorable at the stage door?
I've had many lovely interactions with people at the stage door. When I left Titanique, I received a handmade picture frame with little items inspired by Jack in the show.
Someone once also bought me an electric scooter, which was definitely unexpected!
Who is your favourite singer?
Let's go with Jessie J.
What is your favourite Disney musical, apart from High School Musical?
I think it's going to be The Hunchback of Notre Dame or Tarzan.
What is your favourite TV show?
I love true crime things and documentaries. I love history things—anything history or crime.
How are rehearsals going so far?
So much fun, we're absolutely having a hoot! Everyone is lovely; it's a gorgeous cast, and the show is so joyful. It's just great to be in the room with all these lovely people and Drew McOnie from The Hope Mill leading us, with Aaron Renfree and Jo. Honestly, such a brilliant experience so far.
How much time do you spend scrolling on social media every day?
I try not to spend too much time; I go through stages of deleting my socials. But we need it for work and to keep up with what's going on, so I try to keep it as minimal as I can.
Do you have any big or irrational fears?
The sea. I don't like deep water in the sea. It's scary—we don't know what's in there!
At the end of a big two-show day, what is the first thing you do when you get home?
Have some food and put something on to unwind.
Do you have a personal favourite song or big dance number in the show?
I love "We're All in This Together" right at the end of the show. We're all on stage; it's so joyful, and the choreography is really cool. Now that I know the choreography, I can really enjoy it!
