Mythos: Ragnarök (Written and Directed by Ed Gamster) is described as a marriage of professional wrestling and nordic mythology, exploring ancient Gods and monsters in a true one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. Does it do exactly what it says on the tin? Yes. Is it absolutely crazy? Also, yes.

As someone who has admittedly had zero interaction with pro wrestling, this did feel like a fish-out-water experience. The show, understandably, attracts a wide array of wrestling fans who fill the space of Alexandra Palace with chants and jeers of support for their favourite Gods. It's a truly unique atmosphere for a theatrical show, but there's something quite communal and warm about it.

The script is surprisingly very funny, with plenty of quick wit and quips, even whilst at the height of action. The character of Loki (Ed Gamester) is a particular standout, full of snarky comments and audience interaction. We follow his journey, rooting for him throughout as some sort of sardonic underdog.

Costume (Melanie Watson) was another highlight, with each character sporting Nordic-inspired garments mixed with that pro wrestling flair. We see fur cloaks, shiny gold underpants, and the all important champion's belt. It's garish and silly, and it works perfectly within the context of the show.

I think, unfortunately, the female characters felt underdeveloped overall. The main (male) characters have plenty of dialogue, with long scenes of heightened emotion and conflict. The women just felt like an accessory to said conflict. It was exciting to see female wrestlers were included within the plot but I felt, ultimately, unsatisfied by the lack of exploration or resolution with their character arcs.

Overall, this was an entirely unique and wacky experience. Once again, I am not a wrestling fan, but I can safely say that I had a fun time. It's certainly not a show for everyone, but it's a guaranteed fun night out for wrestling fans (or those looking for something memorable!)
