A new story inspired by the sea's most feared villain will be reimagined as a dark and thrilling musical prequel to The Little Mermaid. The new musical sets its sights on a world premiere in the UK.

Created and conceived by Kristopher Russell and Michael David Glover, it is based on the young adult novel of the same name. Written by Sarah Henning, Sea Witch was first published in 2018 and was hailed as "being full of plot twists and heart-in-throat action” (Booklist).

Set in a small Danish fishing village, Sea Witch follows Evie, a young outcast witch who is haunted by the drowning of her best friend Anna and estranged from Prince Nik. Living in hiding, Annemette appears. A mysterious girl who looks just like Anna, Annemette is a mermaid with three days to win a human's love or vanish forever. Drawn in by their shared powers, Evie agrees to help - but love, loss, and vengeance collide in a fragile triangle that threatens the fate of the kingdom.

The creative team for this new musical also includes visionary choreographer for Janet Jackson, Dean Lee,and will feature music and lyrics composed by Segun Fawole..

The cast includes Michelle Visage as Tante Hansa, Jay McGuiness as Iker, Natalie Paris as Evie, Mazz Murray as Queen Charlotte, Amy Di Bartolomeo as Annemette and Natalie Kassanga as Malvina. Choreography is by Dean Lee, with music production by Jeff Nang.

The concerts will take place on Sunday 1 March 2026, with shows at 3pm and 7.30 pm atTheatre Royal Drury Lane.
