It's tricky to talk about House of Life without giving too much away – part of its charm is not knowing exactly what you're walking into. But what I can say is that it's unlike anything else on the London stage right now.
From the moment you step into the space at Soho Theatre, you're pulled into something that feels less like a traditional show and more like a joyful, glitter-drenched ritual. Led by the fabulous RaveRend (Ben Welch) and his musical partner-in-crime Trev (Lawrence Cole), House of Life blurs the lines between gig, sermon, and party – in the best possible way.
The songs are original, catchy, and sneakily emotional – the kind that you find yourself humming on the way home. And the projections? Genuinely funny, with some brilliant visual gags that add an extra layer of cheeky charm to the whole thing.
There's a real sense of community here, and the audience becomes an essential part of the experience. It's uplifting, slightly bonkers, and surprisingly moving in places. Yes, it's camp. Yes, it's chaotic. And yes, it absolutely works.
If you're after a fun night that celebrates connection, music, and a bit of sparkly mischief, House of Life will leave you smiling – and possibly dancing down Dean Street.
And if you miss it in London – don't worry. House of Life is about to head off on a world tour, spreading its glittery gospel far and wide.
It's one of those experiences that's hard to explain, but easy to love.
