The 11-time Tony-nominated musical A Strange Loop will transfer to London this summer. A Strange Loop will run at the Barbican from 17 June to 9 September.

The A Strange Loop musical follows Usher, a Black queer writer in New York City. By day, he works front of house at The Lion King on Broadway. He’s also ghostwriting a new Tyler Perry play. As Usher navigates a white, heteronormative world, a six-person ensemble voice his thoughts.

Michael R. Jackson’s musical won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The musical premiered at Playwrights Horizons, and then transferred to Broadway in 2022, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical.

In a five-star A Strange Loop review on New York Theatre Guide, a critic said: “A Strange Loop's director Stephen Brackett and choreographer Raja Feather Kelly bravely punctuate each perverse and revelatory ode that Jackson has penned into his work. This is art as activism in its highest form.”

A Strange Loop London casting will be announced at a later date.
