The brand-new musical "I Should Be So Lucky" is undoubtedly a winner, featuring all the Stock, Aitken Waterman hits you know and love. From "I Should Be So Lucky" (Kylie Minogue) to "Never Gonna Give You Up" (Rick Astley), "Too Many Broken Hearts" (Jason Donovan), and "Love In The First Degree" (Bananarama), the show boasts over 20 other songs from their hit catalogue. What's not to like?

The show premiered at the Manchester Opera House in November and is now on a tour across the UK.

The story follows the journey of a young couple, Ella (Lucie-Mae Summer) and Nathan (Billy Roberts), who fall hopelessly in love and are about to take the biggest step of their lives – marriage. However, things don't go quite as planned, leading Ella's friends and family to accompany her on an unexpected honeymoon to a Turkish resort. It's a humorous plot that also carries a message of hope, emphasizing that, sometimes, we can be so lucky in unexpected ways.

Every member of the cast brings a unique flair to the stage. Giovanni Spano is hilarious as Ash, the loyal best man, Scott Paige delivers fantastic energy and comedy as Ella's best friend Michael, Matthew Croke plays wonderfully the typical holiday gigolo and Kyla Carter showcases a beautiful voice while performing one of the most captivating songs of the musical (“You’ll never stop me loving you”)

The lighting design by Howard Hudson expertly enhances the lively musical numbers, setting the perfect mood for the show.

While the story may be undeniably silly, aiming for "Mamma Mia!" territory, the musical numbers are a delightful mix of catchy 80s and 90s tunes that seamlessly complement the storyline. It's these musical numbers that truly captivate the audience.

The show is a celebration of love, dreams, and the beauty of life's unpredictable journey. If you're in search of a show to beat the winter blues, "I Should Be So Lucky" is the evening of entertainment you're looking for, leaving you with a smile on your face.

It runs at New Wimbledon Theatre until 3 February. Tickets: here.
